In short: your notes and study material are used only to run NoteStar for you. NoteStar shows no ads and never sells your data. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.

Who runs NoteStar

NoteStar is run by Fardin Sadman, Dallas, Texas, USA ("we"). If a company takes over running NoteStar, this policy will name it. Contact us at fardin.sadman@gmail.com.

Who can use NoteStar

NoteStar is for people aged 18 and over. We ask for your month and year of birth before you sign in and keep only the result (allowed or not) on your device. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13; if you believe a child has used NoteStar, contact us and we'll delete the account. Where Google Play provides an age signal (for example in Texas), we use it only to apply this age requirement and don't store it.

What we collect

InformationWhy
Your Google account name, email address and profile photo, and an account IDTo sign you in, show your profile, and let study groups invite you by email
Your notes, handwriting, flashcards, study books and chapters, and AI tutor questions and answersTo store and sync your library across your devices
Files, photos and web pages you add as sourcesTo read their text for notes and books. Files and photos are read on your device and sent for AI processing; they aren't stored as files on our servers. The text read from them becomes part of your notes or books.
Notes, books and decks you share to a study groupTo show them to that group's members
Your plan and counts of AI actions (for example, books made this month)To apply plan limits
Reports you send about AI content, including the reported textTo review and improve the safety and quality of AI answers

Your flashcard review progress and your settings stay on your device. NoteStar doesn't collect your location, contacts or advertising identifiers, and doesn't use analytics or advertising trackers. This website doesn't use cookies or trackers either.

AI processing

When you use AI features (summaries, study books, flashcards, the tutor, reading handwriting or files), the relevant text, images and your question are sent to Google's Gemini models through Firebase AI Logic. Answers are generated from your material and can be wrong; check anything important.

Today, AI requests use Google's Gemini Developer API, and Google may use these requests to improve its products, as described in Google's Gemini API terms. Please don't add sensitive personal information to material you use with AI features. We're moving AI processing to a Google Cloud service whose terms don't allow Google to use your content to improve its products, and we'll update this section when that's done.

Who processes your information

  • Google (Firebase): sign-in (Firebase Authentication), cloud storage and sync (Cloud Firestore), app integrity checks (Firebase App Check with Play Integrity), AI processing (Firebase AI Logic and Gemini), technical logs of AI requests (such as errors and response times) used to keep the service working, and hosting for this website.
  • Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons: to find freely licensed images for your books, NoteStar sends article titles related to your book's topics. Your notes aren't sent.
  • Websites you add as sources: NoteStar downloads the page you choose, like a browser would.

We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Your library is kept until you delete it or delete your account. When you delete your account, we delete your notes, handwriting, books, chapters, flashcards, tutor history and everything you shared to study groups, and the account itself. We keep two small records that contain none of your content: your plan and your AI usage counters (kept for fraud prevention and billing records), and reports you sent about AI content (kept for safety review). Copies that other group members saved to their own libraries belong to them.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete: in the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete account. You can also request deletion on the web.
  • Access and correction: your library is always visible and editable in the app. To get a copy of your data, email us.
  • Where the law gives you more rights (for example, residents of Texas, other US states, the EU or the UK), you can ask to access, correct, delete or move your data, or object to processing, by emailing us. We'll answer within the time the law requires. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and stored with Google Firebase, whose security rules let only you read your library (and group members read what you share with them). No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we'll tell you as the law requires.

Changes

We'll update this page when our practices change, and tell you in the app about important changes.
